Who is Ex Æquo ?

Duo Ex Æquo - pianists

Laurence Lambert-Chan and Romain Pollet form the Duo Ex Aequo, a four-hand piano duet, witty and funny, who likes to laugh and make people laugh. Ex Aequo toured with their first concert during a tour in the province of Quebec in 2014-2015 and took part in several festivals, such as Montréal en lumière, Classica, and more recently in the Montreal Symphonic Orchestra’s Virée classique 2016.

Laurence Lambert-Chan

Born in 1987, Laurence Lambert-Chan holds a Master’s Degree of chamber music and a Bachelor’s Degree in classical piano from the University of Montreal. She was a PhD candidate in Études et pratiques des arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal, for which she received funding from the FRQSC (Fonds québécois de recherche science et culture). From 2001 to 2006, she continued her summer training in the United States. Since 2003, Laurence has collaborated with many artists including Natalie Choquette and Gregory Charles.

 

In 2005, she joined her younger sister Camille, flautist, and formed the Duo Lambert-Chan. The duo has performed in Quebec, South America and France, as well as on major Canadian radio and television stations. The Duo Lambert-Chan has recorded two albums, Un vent d’elles and Sognando. As a soloist, Laurence played several concerts in major music festivals and halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, where she has played twice.

 

Laurence’s musical activities now revolve around three projects : The Story of Babar (Jeunesses Musicales Canada), Opera 101, a theatrical concert with mezzo soprano Charlotte Gagnon and the Duo Ex Aequo.

Romain Pollet

 

Romain Pollet holds diplomas from the Conservatoire de Bordeaux in both piano and bassoon, as well as a Diplôme d’État Français, a Master’s Degree in performance and a D. Mus from Université de Montréal. In the past years, Romain was awarded several scholarships, including the D. Angers and P.M. & V.M. Gélinas for his piano performance degree.

 

Romain studied under various teachers : Jean-Philippe Guillo, Auréli Forré and Jean-Marie Lamothe in Bordeaux, and Marc Durand and Martin Mangrum in Montreal. He had the pleasure to take part in several masterclasses with Jean-Claude Pennetier, Prisca Benoît, Claire Désert, Dalton Baldwin and many others. As part of his Doctorate in Music, Romain studied the repertoire of German lied and French mélodie and wrote a research on Liszt’s piano transcriptions of Schubert’s Müllerlieder, with Francis Perron as advisor.  

 

As a collaborative pianist, Romain Pollet is specialised in lyrical repertoire, which brings him to play with several artists in Canada, as well as internationally. For the past few years, he has also been a part of the collaborative pianists team in the Canadian Vocal Arts Institute.

Romain joined the Orford Six pianos Ensemble in 2017.
